Thank you to SD 33 DFL 2016 Candidates and Volunteers!
We want to recognize and thank our 3 tremendously talented and capable candidates for their positive campaigns and willingness to make the personal sacrifice and do the difficult work to run for office and step up for public service. I know we are all proud to have had Sherrie Pugh, Norrie Thomas, and Brad Brothen representing us. They were visible across our sprawling district and represented our shared values in each contact. Each of them has core strengths and a wealth of experience to contribute and we know they will continue to work to strengthen our communities.
Thank you to all who volunteered and supported our candidates and ensured voices were heard and bridges built throughout our district. Any way in which you supported is appreciated and makes a difference – attending events (parades, house parties, debates, festivals, farmers markets, candidate outreach, etc), hosting events, attending caucus/convention, door knocking, phone calling, data entry, mentoring by previous candidates, generating lit/mailer content, stuffing mailers, displaying yard signs, messages of support on social media, letters to the editor, talking to friends and neighbors, GOTV, encouraging all to vote, contributing to campaigns, and, most importantly, casting your vote.
We look forward to continuing our work together joined by common values to make a difference in our district and across Minnesota! Thank you for your dedication and together we will make a difference.

Brad Brothen spent his childhood diving off docks into Lake Minnetonka and sitting in the classrooms at Shirley Hills Elementary, the same classrooms in which his two children sit today. He and his wife, Nikole — both community and technical college educators — have been married for 27 years and are proud to call Mound their home. With an extensive background in education and counseling, Brad has spent his entire career helping students learn to critically think, analyze all sides of an issue, and come to reasonable, pragmatic conclusions — skills that are desperately needed at the State Legislature. Running for Minnesota House Seat 33B, Brad hopes to work tirelessly for his constituents and the people of Minnesota to restore faith in what makes our state, the Star of the North, and this country exceptional — this bold experiment in representative democracy. It’s well past time for our representatives to do just that — represent their people over personal and special interests.

“My family has lived in Mound for 50 years and I understand the challenges facing our district; if I have learned anything about the people of Senate District 33 I know we have the confidence and ability to face those challenges head on.
I’m running because citizens of our state have so much in common, and divisive politics has separated us. When we are separated from each other, we do a disservice to the promise of our state and the potential of our futures as Minnesotans. I want to help build bridges between communities, between men and women, between the rural and urban, and between democrats and republicans. I understand the needs of our diverse community.
Let’s create a path forward that reflects shared vision and values. I have experience in both the public and private sectors developing housing, supporting small businesses, and building local economies. With your help, I’d like the opportunity to work with you in strengthening our schools and communities.”
